Testing the Capture OnTheGo Template Wizards

This How-To will show you how to use the existing Capture OnTheGo templates available from the Connect Welcome Screen. Note that following this How-To requires Connect 1.3 or higher.

Step 1: Obtaining the OL Learn API Key

In order to test sending the COTG data from the mobile application and receiving the results by email, you will need to obtain your API key. This key is only available if you have an account on our Learn website, which is completely free.

Step 2: Obtaining a Capture OnTheGo Repository Account

In order to use any Capture OnTheGo features, you are required to have a Repository account (also called COTG Server account or the Store ID). You can get a trial account for this purpose; please see this page for more details.

Once you have your ID and Password, you also need to create an account:

  • Go to the Capture OnTheGo Repository Login
  • Login with your ID and Password.
  • Go to the Users page.
  • Add a new user and take note of the username (which should be in the form of an email).

With the repository ID, password and username in hand, continue to the next step.

Step 3: Create a new template from a wizard

With the API key in hand, head over to your Connect Welcome Screen and click on Browse Template Wizards.

  • Any of the template wizards in the COTG section will do, so click on one of them.
  • In the Submit URL box, replace {{APIKEY}} with the one retrieved in Step 1.
  • Change any other desired option and click Finish.

Step 4: Adding some data

In order to test COTG features, you will need to add a data file to your document. This is because the Send COTG Test option requires at least one record. You can either open an existing data mapping configuration, or simply use the File > Add Data menu to add data from a CSV file – it will not be used unless you drag fields into your document.

Step 5: Sending the document to the COTG Application

The next step is to use the Send COTG Test button in the toolbar to send the document to the mobile application. When clicking this button, a few important details are to be filled:

  • The Store ID is the Repository ID noted above.
  • The Password is also from the Repository (not for the account you created inside of it).
  • The Recipient is the username for the account created inside the Repository.
  • The Category will be created automatically – leave to custom to avoid influencing other categories you might create in the future.

After clicking Finish, the document is sent to the recipient on the Repository, ready to be read.

Step 6: Using the COTG mobile application

The final step is to open the document in the COTG Mobile Application and to use it.

  • First head to The COTG Download Page to get a link to the app for your device (iOS, Android or Windows 10).
  • Install the application.
  • Open the application for the first time.
  • In the login screen, enter the username and password for the account created in the Repository in step 2.
  • The document should auto-download to My Library, click to open it.
  • Explore the document and fill in any widget it may have at your leisure (signature, picture, etc).
  • Click Submit at the bottom.

When submitting the information, the debug process (the Submit URL entered when creating the template) automatically processes the information and sends you an email with all the data entered in the form. The message is sent to the address used to register your OL Learn account in Step 1.
